Ground Investigations and Parameter Assessment for Different Geological Deposits in Sweden
This paper describes how geotechnical engineers in Sweden normally perform their site investigations, both in the field and laboratory, how the results are compiled to obtain a ground model and how the geotechnical parameters for work such as foundation design are assessed. The geological features vary considerably throughout the country and the composition and content of a site investigation program will vary according to the type of ground on the site. The paper has therefore been divided into sections with respect to the main soil types. For each type of ground, a short description of the geological features and the composition of the ground is provided as an introduction. Thereafter, the field investigation methods and laboratory tests with typical results are presented, together with normal practice for parameter assessment.
