ARTISTIC AND SEMANTIC FEATURES OF EUPHEMISTIC PERIPHRASES (Based on Tohir Malik's novel “Shaytanat”)

This article analyzes the linguopoetic features of periphrases formed by euphemistic means in Tohir Malik's novel “Shaytanat”. It examines the role of periphrases in expressing unpleasant, frightening, tragic, or morally burdensome concepts of human life in a figurative and softened form, without naming them directly. The study analyzes, semantically and stylistically, such periphrases as “indamaslar olami” (“the world of the silent”), “kulfat bo'roni” (“the storm of calamity”), “abri balo” (“the cloud of misfortune”), “ajalning soyasi” (“the shadow of death”), “yog'och ot” (“the wooden horse”), “so'nggi ziyoratgoh” (“the final shrine”), “o'limning shirin suvi” (“the sweet water of death”), “o'lim sharpasi” (“the specter of death”), “qurigan umid daraxti” (“the withered tree of hope”), and “g'azab iskanjasi” (“the vise of rage”). It is established that in these units negative content such as death, the grave, illness, misfortune, fear, tyranny, slander, and despair is expressed through metaphorical images. The study substantiates that euphemistic periphrases reveal the writer's individual artistic thinking, strengthen the emotional-expressive force of the text, and produce a particular psychological and aesthetic impression on the reader.

Abstract

This article analyzes the linguopoetic features of periphrases formed by euphemistic means in Tohir Malik's novel “Shaytanat”. It examines the role of periphrases in expressing unpleasant, frightening, tragic, or morally burdensome concepts of human life in a figurative and softened form, without naming them directly. The study substantiates that euphemistic periphrases reveal the writer's individual artistic thinking, strengthen the emotional-expressive force of the text, and produce a particular psychological and aesthetic impression on the reader.
