Hubungan Status Gizi dan Kepatuhan Konsumsi Tablet Fe dengan Kejadian Anemia pada Remaja Putri di SMA Negeri 3 Kota Batam
Anemia among adolescent girls is an important public health concern because rapid growth and menstrual blood loss can increase iron requirements. Nutritional status and adherence to iron tablet consumption are relevant factors in anemia prevention. This study aimed to determine the association between nutritional status, adherence to iron tablet consumption, and anemia among female adolescents at SMA Negeri 3 Kota Batam. This quantitative study used an analytic cross-sectional design involving 62 female students in grades X and XI, selected through proportionate stratified random sampling followed by random selection within strata. Data were collected using a questionnaire and hemoglobin assessment. Descriptive statistics summarized nutritional status, adherence, and anemia, while associations were examined using the Chi-square test at a significance level of 0.05. Of the 62 respondents, 36 (58.1%) had normal nutritional status and 26 (41.9%) had non-normal nutritional status. Thirty-six respondents (58.1%) were adherent to iron tablet consumption, while 26 (41.9%) were non-adherent. Twenty respondents (32.3%) had anemia and 42 (67.7%) did not. Anemia was found in 15 respondents (24.2%) with non-normal nutritional status, compared with five (8.1%) with normal nutritional status. Among non-adherent respondents, 16 (25.8%) had anemia, compared with four (6.5%) among adherent respondents. Chi-square analysis showed significant associations between nutritional status and anemia (p<0.001), and between iron tablet adherence and anemia (p<0.001). These findings support school-based nutrition education, nutritional-status monitoring, and supportive routines for iron tablet consumption. Because the study was cross-sectional, the findings indicate associations and do not establish causality.
