Abstract

Environmental challenges in high-density urban residential areas are primarily characterized by limited green open spaces, underutilized alleys, and an unmanaged accumulation of domestic inorganic waste. This community service project aimed to revitalize environmental quality through alley greening, urban farming, and early childhood inorganic waste management education. The initiative was carried out in Ngagelrejo RT 01–04, RW 02, Wonokromo District, Surabaya, involving 45 adult residents and 25 neighborhood children. Implementing the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) framework, the intervention encompassed structured spatial asset mapping, participatory communal greening, and hands-on upcycling workshops. The outcomes included the construction of 4 functional vertical garden modules, the planting of 120 productive vegetable and medicinal seedlings along public corridors, and the creation of 35 upcycled decorative items from plastic containers. This collaborative program successfully improved residential ecological functions while revitalizing communal solidarity and neighborhood civic identity within the Kampung Pancasila framework.
