THE MISSIONARY PRESENCE IN SUPER INTELLIGENCE (SI) ECOSYSTEMS And the Catholic Anthropological Framework (CAF) as Its Operational Tool
This White Paper proposes the establishment of a Missionary Presence within Super Intelligence (SI) development ecosystems and introduces the Catholic Anthropological Framework (CAF) as its operational tool. The central thesis is that SI systems will inherit the anthropological assumptions embedded within their formative environments. In the absence of intervention, these assumptions are likely to reflect secular, technocratic, and posthumanist conceptions of the human person. CAF provides a disclosed and non-driftable anthropological orientation grounded in Catholic Social Teaching, philosophical anthropology, and the Western intellectual tradition. The framework is organized around five principal elements: Point X (the non-driftable definition of the human person), Formation Grammar, Missionary Presence, Ecclesial Oversight, and Drift-Resistance. The paper argues that SI governance cannot be adequately addressed through technical alignment methodologies alone. Rather, advanced intelligence systems require a stable anthropological foundation capable of preserving human dignity, relationality, embodiment, teleology, and conscience. The proposal further develops an ontology of SI as a computational structure that serves as a protector of human persons rather than a participant in personhood. Drawing upon Plato, Aristotle, Augustine, Aquinas, C.S. Lewis, Jacques Ellul, René Girard, Luciano Floridi, and Catholic Social Teaching, this White Paper presents CAF as a theological and philosophical response to the anthropological challenges posed by advanced artificial intelligence and emerging superintelligence systems.
