Five Fitted Coefficients, Priced: von Weizsäcker's Liquid-Drop Mass Formula, Its Valley and Its 8 MeV, and the Shells Outside the Drop
Census pricing (row CC-114) of the founding step of von Weizsacker's 'Zur Theorie der Kernmassen,' Z. Phys. 96, 431-458 (1935), against a fixed bench (what is postulated, what is derived, what the postulates return numerically, what they cannot reach). The step is five fitted coefficients (declared set aV = 15.75, aS = 17.8, aC = 0.711, aA = 23.7, aP = 11.18 MeV, labelled fitted wherever they appear) riding on one model picture, the charged liquid drop. Verified in the notebook (10 checks, exit 0) against eight named measured binding energies spent as audit targets: grid RMS residual 5.67 MeV, U-238 residual +13.03 MeV, Pb-208 returned at 1634.26 MeV as a cancellation among fitted terms (+3276.00 volume), and the valley of stability Z* returned within one charge unit of the actual Z at A = 16 / 56 / 120 / 208 / 238 (the genuine derived return, credited). Remainders at full size: magic-number residuals of both signs (He-4 -5.45 MeV, Ca-40 +2.52 MeV) -- the fit absorbs the average shell effect and the shell term lives at CC-98's address; deformation and the light-nucleus regime are outside the spherical drop. Scout-grade verification disclosed on the manuscript's face (CC-91 form): no verbatim quotation, no page-specific claim. EXTENSION. Vacuum catastrophe NOT SOLVED; quantum gravity NOT SOLVED.
