Governing Through Legalized Repression: Strategic Human Rights Violations and Authoritarian Consolidation in Turkey

This record contains the data, code, and output needed to reproduce the tables and figures in “Governing Through Legalized Repression: Strategic Human Rights Violations and Authoritarian Consolidation in Turkey” and its supplementary material. The study uses annual Varieties of Democracy (V-Dem) indicators for Turkey, 1990–2025 (n = 36), to build four composite indices: the Electoral Integrity Index (EII), Media Freedom Index (MFI), Institutional Capture Index (ICI), and Human Rights Index (HRI). Components are min-max normalized over Turkey’s observed range and combined with equal weights.
