Emerging therapeutic strategies for drug-sensitive tuberculosis
Tuberculosis (TB) remains a leading cause of global morbidity and mortality despite sustained international control efforts. Over the past decade, the management of TB has evolved, with treatment strategies now broadly categorized into drug-sensitive tuberculosis (DS-TB) and drug-resistant tuberculosis (DR-TB). While the standard six-month regimen for DS-TB has remained largely unchanged, recent years have witnessed significant advances, including the introduction of shorter regimens and updated international guideline recommendations. This review summarizes contemporary evidence and updates in the treatment of DS-TB, with emphasis on World Health Organization (WHO) recommendations, national programmatic adaptations, and emerging therapeutic strategies.
