Comparing neutrons and X-rays - The coffee machine

The coffee machine movie was originally acquired as a technical feasibility test of the frame rate of a new camera. Meanwhile, it has become a popular demonstration of neutron real-time imaging and is also popular with the general public who are interested in seeing what happens inside while the coffee is prepared. These slides and the normalized images are provided as separate PNG files and show the difference between what neutrons and X-rays can reveal in an object.

Abstract

The coffee machine movie was originally acquired as a technical feasibility test of the frame rate of a new camera. Meanwhile, it has become a popular demonstration of neutron real-time imaging and is also popular with the general public who are interested in seeing what happens inside while the coffee is prepared. These slides and the normalized images are provided as separate PNG files and show the difference between what neutrons and X-rays can reveal in an object.
