Theory of Living Organization: Generative Dependency, Organizational Continuity, and Adaptive Freedom

This theoretical preprint develops the Theory of Living Organization (TLO), an integrative framework connecting generative dependency, organizational continuity, transition dynamics, and adaptive freedom. The framework distinguishes the capacity of living systems to maintain their current organization from their capacity to access alternative viable organizations. It examines how biological dependencies are generated, maintained, and transformed, and how historically successful adaptations may either expand or restrict future organizational possibilities. The paper proposes a formal account of organizational accessibility, identifies testable theoretical propositions, and discusses the relationship of TLO to organizational closure, biological robustness, and viability theory. This revised version extends and formalizes the original theoretical framework. It presents a research program rather than claiming empirical validation of a new universal biological law.
