Dowry vs Alimony: A Comparative Study
Dowry and alimony both deal with money in the context of marriage, but they have very different purposes and legal positions. This paper explains the meaning and history of both, and it also looks at how they evolved through different religions and customs. Dowry began as a voluntary gift to the bride and became a demand that harmed many women, which led to special laws for them. Alimony, on the other hand, is a legal duty that gives financial support to a husband or wife after divorce, and it is governed by personal laws. This article compares the two and shows how they connect, using real cases.
