Fracture Liaison Services in Switzerland: current status and challenges
Switzerland is one of the very high-risk countries for osteoporosis. The Fracture Liaison Service is the internationally endorsed model for secondary fracture prevention and for reducing mortality after a person has sustained a fragility fracture. In this article, we describe current Fracture Liaison Service coverage and structure in Switzerland and the challenges Fracture Liaison Services are facing. Good interdisciplinary cooperation, especially with general practitioners, is a key factor. Artificial intelligence (AI) for the detection of vertebral fractures, shared electronic medical records, digital platforms and telemedicine are emerging and evolving approaches to overcome the existing barriers to osteoporosis treatment.
