TECHNOLOGY Tools CoS | WP2 | D2.3 Recommendations for software developers/authors, reviewers and editors for dissemination of research software metadata

This deliverable is the output of the outreach activities of Work Package 2 - The ELIXIR Research Software Ecosystem - of the Tools Platform Commissioned Service 2024-TECHNOLOGY-Tools. To engage with academic publishers, journal editors and ELIXIR Communities, we developed a simplified and minimum set of guidelines that promote good practices in publishing software metadata. We have described these in the style typical of journal instructions to authors to help researchers and research software developers in providing the metadata that should accompany published research software. These guidelines will ensure that critical information about the research software can be captured and made available to the scientific community. After collecting and consolidating feedback from a number of journal editors, researchers and research software engineers, we made a first version of these guidelines available on Zenodo 12 November 2025 (doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.17592504) and placed them in the public domain.
