E-Governance in Modern Library Services

This article examines how electronic governance (e-governance) and digital technologies are reshaping modern libraries. Driven by rapid technological progress, libraries are moving away from traditional paper-based workflows. Internally, automated systems, RFID tracking, and digital archiving software streamline daily operations, reduce administrative paperwork, improve financial transparency, and enable seamless resource sharing across institutions. Externally, libraries serve as crucial bridges connecting local communities to public services. By offering free internet, public computers, and staff assistance, libraries ensure that individuals lacking digital devices or technical skills are not left behind. As a result, they have become trusted civic spaces where citizens can safely access online government services, apply for public welfare programs, and participate in civic life. However, this digital transition presents significant challenges. Libraries must navigate cybersecurity threats, privacy concerns on shared public computers, aging technical infrastructure, and the continuous need for staff training. To address these issues, this article recommends establishing robust cybersecurity protocols to safeguard user data, forging strategic partnerships with government agencies, and securing sustainable public funding.
