Antibiotic Resistance in Sheep and Goats: A Growing Problem We Should Not Ignore
Introduction Sheep and goats play an important role in the livelihoods of farmers, particularly small and marginal farmers. They provide meat, milk, manure and a regular source of income. However, diseases caused by bacteria can affect their health, reduce production and cause financial losses. Antibiotics are important medicines used by veterinarians to treat bacterial infections. Unfortunately, the improper and repeated use of these medicines is contributing to a growing problem called antibiotic resistance. This problem can make certain bacterial infections more difficult to treat, increase treatment costs and threaten both animal and human health. Therefore, every sheep and goat farmer should understand antibiotic resistance and learn how to prevent it.
