The impact of artificial intelligence technologies on crisis management: organizational agility and organizational culture

Purpose This study aims to examine the impact of Artificial intelligence (AI) technologies on Crisis Management, highlighting the mediating role of organizational agility and the moderating role of Organizational culture. The study seeks to understand how AI-driven tools enhance organizational capabilities in anticipating, responding to, and recovering from crises and how agility and culture influence these relationships. Design/methodology/approach A quantitative, descriptive and analytical approach was adopted. The study population consisted of 252 employees from Jordanian governmental institutions involved in crisis management or utilizing AI technologies. Data were collected via a structured questionnaire measuring AI technologies, crisis management, organizational agility and organizational culture. Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling was used to assess reliability, validity and test the hypothesized relationships. Findings Results indicate that AI technologies have a significant positive impact on crisis management and organizational agility. Organizational agility mediates the effect of AI on crisis management, demonstrating that AI benefits are enhanced when organizations are agile. However, the moderating role of organizational culture was not statistically significant, suggesting that the effects of AI and agility on crisis management are robust across cultural contexts. Originality/value This study contributes to the literature by integrating AI, organizational agility and culture within the frameworks of resource-based view and decision theory, offering empirical evidence on how technological and organizational capabilities interact to improve crisis preparedness and response. It provides practical insights for managers to leverage AI and foster agility to strengthen resilience in uncertain environments.
