Starting a Recognition, Recruitment, Retention (R3) Council in a professional shared governance model
ABSTRACT Professional shared governance (PSG) promotes nurse engagement through shared decision-making and recognition of professional contributions. At one academic medical center, a Recognition, Recruitment, and Retention (R 3 ) Council was established within the PSG framework to support workforce initiatives; monitor engagement, recruitment, retention, turnover, and vacancy trends; and inform organizational priorities. The council has implemented numerous programs to recognize staff achievements and address workforce challenges. This article describes the council’s development, key initiatives, and outcomes, demonstrating its role in enhancing staff engagement, satisfaction, and workforce stability.
