Age- and Sex-Related Variations in Routine Coagulation and Hematological Parameters Among Apparently Healthy Yemeni Adults Aged 40 Years and Older: A Cross-Sectional Study

The study aimed to evaluate the coagulation profile (PT, INR, APTT) and hematological parameters (CBC) among apparently healthy Yemeni adults aged 40 years and older. Background: Aging is widely described as a hypercoagulable state, yet clotting-time evidence from Middle Eastern populations is scarce. Reference intervals imported from Western populations may misclassify local patients. This study quantifies age- and sex-related variations in these parameters and evaluates the consequences of applying international reference intervals. Analytic Sample: 199 apparently healthy participants (141 men, 58 women; age range 40–95 years) were analyzed. Volunteers with known bleeding/thrombotic disorders, current anticoagulant therapy, chronic systemic diseases, recent infections, or recent surgical interventions were excluded.
