Autonomous Management of Business Organizations through Artificial Intelligence: Risks, Opportunities and Prospects

This report presents the results of a study of the challenges, opportunities and consequences of using artificial intelligence (AI) as an autonomous manager in the management of business organizations. The focus is on the concept of an AI-based corporate manager who can perform leading management functions related to data analysis, strategic planning, decision-making and organizational control. Based on a review of the current literature on the topic, the factors of such a type of management are analyzed, as well as its effectiveness compared to traditional human management and its hybrid version with AI. The report examines the ethical, social and some legal aspects of replacing the human manager with AI, as well as issues related to transparency, responsibility, trust and the way employees perceive it. For this purpose, a survey was conducted among employees and managers of Bulgarian companies, predominantly from the technology sector, whose experience with AI provides useful information in the context of the study. Special attention is paid to the impact that the use of an AI-manager (AI CEO) has on the culture in organizations and the need to develop challenging management competencies for managers related to the interaction of humans with AI and the ethical management of algorithmic systems. The conclusion and inferences summarize the advantages and many limitations that the replacement of the human manager with AI brings, as well as the sustainable and promising opportunities as recommendations for development for Bulgarian business organizations with hybrid management models combining human creativity and empathy.
