Compliance with Soft Contact Lens

Background: Contact lens is a thin small plastic lens placed directly on the surface of the eye to correct vision problems or for cosmetic and therapeutic purpose. The purpose of the study of soft contact lens wearer was to evaluate the age with sex relation, types of refractive errors, base curve and complications. This prospective study was carried out January to December 2019, at Park View Hospital, Chattogram. Materials and methods: Patients attending with refractive error, one hundred ninety four soft contact lens were fitted in 194 eyes of 98 patients. In 94 patients had contact lens in both eye where 82 were myopic, hypermetropia 06, 14 were anisometropic and two patients had contact lens in one eye due to aphakia. 15 to 60 years of patients included in this study. Results: In relation to age most soft contact lens wearer were between 16 -25 years (59.61%) of which 92 patients (88.46%) were female and 12 (11.54%) were male, 82 patients (78.85%) were myopic, 14 patients (13.46%) were anisometropic, 6 patients (5.78%) were hypermetropic and 2 patients (1.92%) were unilateral aphakia. In relation to base curve 90 patients (86.54%) soft contact lens wearer having base curve 8.6, 13 patients (12.58%) with base curve 8.3 and one patient with 8.9 (0.98%). About complications of soft contact lens wearer allergic reaction 11 patients (10.57%) congestion with red eye 8 patients (8.62%) superficial punctuate keratitis 5 patients (4.80%) Giant papillary conjunctivitis 3 patients (2.88%) Lens damage 2 patients (1.92%) deposition on lens 2 patients (1.92%) Corneal abrasion 1 patients (0.96%). Conclusion: This study showed increased awareness by the patients towards contact lens wear and also the current trends of contact lens wear in Bangladesh.
