Exact Kinetic Theory of Gas Viscosity and Analytical Solution for the Laminar Boundary Layer in the Gert Model

Abstract:This work overcomes the fundamental methodological limitations of classical fluid dynamics concerning the lack of an exact analytical expression in elementary functions for local velocity distribution within a laminar boundary layer, as well as inaccuracies in the foundational derivation of kinetic coefficients. The first part of the study presents a revised, fully deterministic kinetic theory of gas viscosity that eliminates the Maxwell-Boltzmann statistical distribution. The dynamic viscosity coefficient for gases is derived strictly from a geometric analysis of momentum transfer by a mono-velocity particle flux across a hemisphere, utilizing their mean thermal velocity. It is demonstrated that the classical approach, which relies on root-mean-square velocity instead of the mean velocity, led to a flawed calculation methodology and the introduction of semi-empirical fitting factors. The exact expression for viscosity obtained in the Gert model exhibits rigorous internal consistency in terms of both dimensions and physical principles. In the second part, instead of the traditional self-similar transformations of the Navier-Stokes equations—which yield the non-linear third-order Prandtl-Blasius equation (lacking a closed-form analytical solution)—a method of direct integration of the balance between dynamic pressure forces and Newtonian shear stress along streamlines is applied. The concept of a macroscopic dynamic layer is introduced, the scale of which is not rigidly fixed to the microphysical mean free path but dynamically adapts to external flow conditions. Based on this force balance, an explicit analytical function for the local velocity distribution across the boundary layer height is obtained in a closed form for the first time. Utilizing the speed limit boundary, the finite thickness of the boundary layer is rigorously determined. The resulting analytical convergence definitively proves that the classical Blasius numerical approximation was merely a localized computational reflection of the fundamental law of momentum conservation discovered in this work. Keywords:laminar boundary layer, dynamic gas viscosity, Gert model, Newton's law of viscosity, momentum transfer, analytical solution, force balance, Blasius equation.
