Overlooked brain injury manifesting as diplopia in Wilson disease

Abstract Current understanding of neurological impairment in Wilson disease (WD) both nationally and internationally, has largely focused on manifestations such as psychiatric disturbances, motor dysfunction, dysarthria, and cognitive decline. In this study, five patients with WD presenting with diplopia were identified, whereas no comparable cases have been reported in the published literature. This observation expands the recognized neurological spectrum of WD by highlighting diplopia as a potential clinical manifestation and encourages further investigation into its underlying mechanisms. These results may offer a novel perspective on previously unrecognized pathways of neurological injury in WD.
