De la evaluación medible al sentido comunicativo: desafíos para la enseñanza de la escritura formal y la gramática pragmática en la Escuela Pública Latinoamericana
This reflection article derives from doctoral research conducted at the Universidad Metropolitana de Educación, Ciencia y Tecnología (UMECIT) in Panama, focused on designing a didactic model for formal written production in secondary education. The study analyzes the paradox generated by standardized assessment policies in Latin America, such as PISA tests and their national equivalents, which have hyper-focused Spanish language instruction on passive consumption and critical reading comprehension through multiple-choice formats, thereby marginalizing training in argumentative writing with an authentic voice. Furthermore, it discusses how the persistence of purely prescriptive grammatical approaches and teacher workload in public classrooms across the region (large classes of 35 to 40 students with low weekly hours) turn text correction into a punitive and unsustainable practice. Given this scenario, the paper argues for a transition toward a discursive and pragmatic grammar where norms and academic citation gain purpose through real communicative intentions. Finally, connecting written production with authentic dissemination contexts, such as essay contests, is presented as an effective didactic tool to foster student motivation, enhance formal rigor, and reshape pedagogical practice in the Latin American context.
