cchyperfine: A High-Precision Command-Line Benchmarking Engine
Abstract—Benchmarking command-line tools accurately requires mit-igating process startup overhead, host machine variance, and kernelresource allocation anomalies. This paper presents cchyperfine, anopen-source benchmarking engine designed to measure wall-clock du-ration and CPU time (user/kernel) with statistical confidence intervals. The tool incorporates dynamic run estimation, empty shell overheadsubtraction, lifecycle hooks (warmup, setup, prepare, conclude, cleanup), Median Absolute Deviation (MAD) outlier filtering, parametermatrix sweeps, and multi-format reporting. We demonstrate the sta-tistical performance of cchyperfine across synthetic and real-worldexecution workloads.
