Asociación entre fatiga laboral, desempeño autopercibido y bienestar en personal de cabina de una aerolínea mexicana durante 2024

Introduction. Fatigue is an occupational health problem associated with job performance and other physical and mental health problems, particularly in high-demand occupations related to the safety of others, such as those in the aviation sector. Objectives. To analyze the association between fatigue, self-perceived performance, well-being, and working conditions in the daily lives of cabin crew members of a Mexican commercial airline in 2024. Methods. An anonymous online questionnaire was administered to 585 cabin crew workers to collect information on sociodemographic factors, working conditions, and fatigue using a standardized questionnaire. A descriptive analysis and association tests were subsequently performed, with a significance level of 5%. Results. A high prevalence of fatigue was observed. Participants with higher fatigue reported perceived difficulties in their performance, as well as in work-related responsibility for decision-making. Fatigue was also reported as a limitation for engaging in physical activity and was found to be associated with working conditions such as the 6×4 flight schedule and length of employment. Fatigue was also significantly associated with chronic health problems, including hypertension and musculoskeletal disorders. Conclusions. This study shows that fatigue is a problem experienced by cabin crew members and that it has implications for their daily and working lives. The findings underscore the importance of addressing posible individual and collective strategies to improve health and safety, given that globalization, privatization, and economic crises have contributed to the precarization of work through wage reductions, layoffs, and loss of benefits.
