New Species of Sansevieria in Tanzania

Summary An examination of the native flora over the course of nine years throughout Tanzania by Barry Yinger and Robert Sikawa, co‐founders of the Tanzania Sansevieria Foundation, has resulted in a large number of unknown Sansevieria species being brought into cultivation for the purposes of ex situ conservation, taxonomic examination, and research. In cooperation with the National Herbarium of Tanzania and Potsdam University Botanical Garden, sixteen new species have been described, with many more awaiting this attention. Field work throughout the country has provided insights into the genus as a whole.
