A Study on the Impact of Family Development Capacity on the Dual Burden of Elderly Care and Child-rearing: An Empirical Test Based on Latent Profile Analysis
This study aims to accurately identify different household types based on the 2022 data from the China Family Panel Studies (CFPS). It also seeks to identify variations in the dual burden of caring for the elderly and children across these types. The study uses the sophisticated technique of Latent Profile Analysis (LPA). It gives a complete analysis of multidimensional variables. These include household assets, and social security coverage. The analysis classifies households into four types: high income and high security households, medium asset and medium security households, low income and low security households, high debt and high risk households. Findings indicated that the extent of the double burden of caring for the elderly and children differed greatly across household types.elatively low burden for high-income, high-security households. Low-income, low-security households bear heavier pressures. Marked heterogeneity is evident between urban and rural areas. It is also evident across different regions. It’s more expensive to raise children in urban households. Rural households face difficulties in accessing resources for elderly care. The nature of the burden varies across regions. The reasons lie in differences in culture, policy and levels of economic development. This study provides an important reference for understanding family development. It also provides a reference for formulating differentiated family policies.
