Human-Centered Leadership in Healthcare
ABSTRACT Safe staffing has emerged as one of the most urgent challenges facing health care organizations. Workforce shortages, rising patient acuity, and increasing operational complexity have intensified scrutiny of how staffing decisions are made and sustained. Effective January 1, 2026, The Joint Commission introduced National Performance Goal 12, elevating staffing effectiveness as a core quality and safety expectation. This article explores how Human-Centered Leadership in Healthcare, paired with disciplined operational execution, enables organizations to translate nursing expertise into a sustainable staffing operating model. Practical guidance is provided to support nurse leaders in aligning staffing design, productivity management, and accreditation readiness.
