Manufacturing Content in the Digital Age: Media Control, Artificial Intelligence, and the Politics of Information

AI has transformed the media ecosystem, changing the way information is created, shared, and used. This change has resulted in important issues of information integrity, trust, and social stability in digitally mediated environments. This study tackles informational realities which are increasingly fractured with algorithm-filtered content, emotionally saturated and sometimes manipulated, that is distorting commonality and undermining media credibility. The paper follows a qualitative research design based on a documentary and conceptual analysis of existing scholarly literature on the topic of artificial intelligence, misinformation, and media regulation. Results suggest that AI-powered media systems are more concerned with engagement than accuracy, leading to the dissemination of misinformation, deepfakes, and individualized content environments that foster cognitive bias and selective exposure. It also shows that the manipulation of information in these systems undermines institutional trust, polarization, and social cohesion. The study finds that the use of AI technologies in the dissemination of information boosts efficiency and scale but also poses structural dangers to truth and credibility in media environments. This paper, therefore, calls for more robust media regulation, transparency of algorithms, ethical AI governance frameworks, and enhanced digital literacy as key elements for fostering responsible media governance and re-establishing trust in increasingly automated communication ecosystems.
