Elastic hysteresis of 40Kh steel with a surface nanostructured layer
The elastic hysteresis of 40Kh steel with a surface nanocrystalline structure (NCS) obtained by severe plastic deformation using energy of high-speed friction during mechanical-pulse treatment (MPT) was studied. An increase in the elastic threshold of this steel to 90 MPa comparing to 60 MPa for steel without it, is shown. This effect is explained by enhanced defectiveness of the nanostructure. The obtained results correlate with increased fatigue life of steels with a surface nanostructure formed by MPT.
