VESTONIMLAR: KIYIM-KECHAK TERMINOLOGIYASIDAGI ANTROPONIMIK VA TOPONIMIK NOMLAR
This article is devoted to a relatively new concept in the field of onomastics known as "vestonyms" — names of garments, fabrics, and footwear that derive from proper names, either personal names or place names. The paper examines two principal subtypes of vestonyms: anthroponymic vestonyms (deriving from a person's name) and toponymic vestonyms (deriving from a geographical name). The process is illustrated through English examples such as cardigan, raglan, mackintosh, wellington, bloomers, and leotard, as well as fabric names such as denim, cashmere, damask, tweed, and duffel. The study further analyzes Uzbek toponymic vestonyms such as "chust do'ppisi" (Chust skullcap), "marg'ilon shoyisi" (Margilan silk), and "buxoro duxobasi" (Bukhara velvet), comparing the naming patterns found in the two languages. The findings shed light on the mechanisms of naming, the cultural-historical background, and the role vestonyms occupy in the modern lexicon.
