METAPHORICAL CONCEPTUALIZATION OF A GLOBAL CRISIS: A CASE STUDY OF THE WASHINGTON POST PUBLICATIONS
The study deals with global crisis metaphors, specifically basic metaphors, image schemas, and event metaphors, and applies MPA and MIPVU methods for their identification and analysis. The relevance of this study is determined by the growing interest in the global crisis in media and other sources of information, which highlights the significance of this issue in modern society. The importance of the topic is also connected to current approaches to metaphor studies, which enable researchers to interpret experts’ perspectives on the crisis as a complex social phenomenon. The use of conceptual metaphors for global crisis representation is crucial for understanding the phenomenon itself and exploring possible ways of overcoming its consequences. One of the goals is to research what impact the representation of global crisis has on the audience. The study focuses on the cognitive dimension of global crisis metaphors and the relevance of applying the MPA and MIPVU methods. The findings demonstrate that these methods are effective for identifying and analyzing global crisis metaphors, as they help reveal their key features, as well as their cognitive and manipulative effects.
