Developing Students’ Self-Regulation through Active Participation in the Sang Pendakwah Community (KSP) at SMPN 48 Surabaya
This study examines how students’ active participation in the Sang Pendakwah Community (KSP) contributes to the development of self-regulation in a public school. This research employed a qualitative approach with a case study design at SMPN 48 Surabaya. Data were collected through non-participant observations, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. Ten informants were purposively selected, consisting of one community advisor, two student administrators, and seven KSP members or participants from Grades VIII and IX. Data credibility was strengthened through technique triangulation, while analysis involved data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification. The findings indicate that students’ participation in KSP provides opportunities to practice five aspects of self-regulation: discipline, responsibility, independence, self-control, and self-confidence. This process occurs through preparation and planning, fulfillment of responsibilities and peer interaction, and evaluation with feedback. These processes correspond to Zimmerman’s three phases of self-regulation: forethought, performance, and self-reflection. The novelty of this study lies in examining a student-led religious community as a space for developing self-regulation beyond formal classroom learning. Therefore, providing meaningful responsibilities and opportunities for active participation can support students’ self-regulatory development.
