Recommendations for the Uptake of R&I Results on Cultural Heritage and Hydroclimatic Extremes
This publication presents 20 evidence-informed recommendations providing practical guidance and implementation mechanisms for strengthening the uptake, exploitation and long-term impact of research and innovation (R&I) results addressing cultural heritage and hydroclimatic extremes. Developed within SD-WISHEES, a Horizon Europe Coordination and Support Action aimed at strengthening R&I collaboration and widening participation in research addressing the water–climate–cultural heritage nexus, the recommendations draw on a multi-stage participatory process combining desk research, stakeholder interviews, questionnaires and co-creation workshops, bringing together experiences from Europe, particularly the Balkans, and Africa. Informed by an innovation pathways framework, the recommendations are organised around four interconnected themes: education, training and capacity building; technologies, tools and methods; co-creation, stakeholder engagement and local ownership; and governance, partnerships and funding mechanisms. Each recommendation includes a rationale and practical implementation mechanisms, primarily addressed to Research Performing Organisations (RPOs) and Research Funding Organisations (RFOs), while recognising the roles of other stakeholders. Together, they provide guidance for strengthening the adoption, integration and sustained use of R&I results in policy and practice, beyond individual projects and funding cycles.
