An Important Parameters of Aminoglycosides
Despite being an older class of drugs, aminoglycosides are nevertheless useful in clinical settings. A wide range of aerobic species, including gram-negative bacteria and mycobacteria, are affected by aminoglycosides. Gentamicin, tobramycin, amikacin, neomycin, plazomicin, and streptomycin are among the medications in the aminoglycoside class; the FDA has approved different indications for each of these treatments. For members of the interprofessional team who want to prescribe aminoglycosides, this activity explains the indications, contraindications, mechanism of action, adverse event profile, and other important factors (e.g., off label uses, dosing, pharmacodynamics, pharmacokinetics, monitoring, relevant interactions).
