The Autonomous Learner; Decoding Cognitive Logic of Generation Z in the Sri Lankan Advanced Level Classroom
The Advanced Level (AL) classroom in the modern era is no longer a site of passive reception but a dynamic ecosystem of negotiation and cognitive autonomy. This paper explores the behavioral and cognitive shifts within Generation Z (Gen Z) individuals born between 1997 and 2012, who currently occupy the 17-to-19-year-old cohort in Sri Lanka (Dimock, 2019). Despite geographical, cultural & subject streamwise specificities, Sri Lankan Advance level students are increasingly bridging cultural disparities through digitalization, adopting a globalized "digital-native" logic. This article analyzes the "Authenticity Filter," the "Fast Brain" paradox, and the transition from instruction-following to instruction-making, arguing that modern pedagogy must direct toward relationship-based facilitation.
