Holographic broadcasting for education over B5G/6G: codec optimisation and KPI and KVI evidence from a 5G SA classroom pilot
HoloCast-6G, a sub-project of the 6G-PATH Open Call 2, streamed a recorded lecturer as a point cloud, encoded in real time on a CPU-only edge node of the 6G-PathToVLC testbed (UPV, València), over a 5G SA slice and one Wi-Fi hop to groups of up to four Meta Quest 3 headsets. This white paper reports the codec design and its comparison with Draco and G-PCC, the headset-side measurement method, the seven KPIs and ten KVIs of a validation run (29 September 2026) and a classroom pilot with 22 master students (30 September 2026), and the per-person join of each headset's latency and jitter to the questionnaire of the person who wore it. The measurements are open in the companion dataset (DOI 10.5281/zenodo.23314545).
