Abstract

MOF (Metal-organic framework)- integrated MXene composites have emerged as highly efficient hybrids across diverse fields, including nanotechnology, electrocatalysis, optoelectronics, photocatalysis, and biomedicine. The synergistic effect of the remarkable characteristics of MXenes and MOFs can boost the overall performance of these composites across a wide range of applications. Properties of MXenes, combined with their features, offer a wide range of benefits, including increased surface area, enhanced electrical conductivity, tunable porosity, improved chemical stability, and more. These integral qualities of MOF-MXene offer significant potential for addressing global challenges in energy storage and conversion, environmental remediation, and biomedical applications. These exclusive characteristics and adaptability, when integrated with MOF-MXene composites, position them as potential candidates for developing novel sustainable solutions. Despite their great potential, MOF-MXene composites still face challenges, including scalability, long-term durability, production costs, and the need to further optimise synthesis procedures. This review article highlights the diverse synthetic approaches used to fabricate MOF-MXene composites and identifies the unique properties that make them well-suited for a wide range of applications. In addition, the current article emphasises the escalating exploitation of MOF-MXene composites, highlighting their potential to drive technical advancements across several disciplines.
