THE PRAGMATIC FUNCTIONS OF LEXICAL UNITS IN ENGLISH EVERYDAY COMMUNICATION
In this article, we examine the pragmatic functions of lexical units in contemporary spoken English. Particular attention is paid to how words and expressions are used to convey information, express emotions, establish social contacts, regulate interaction between interlocutors, and achieve specific communicative goals. The article argues that the meaning of lexical units is not entirely fixed, but rather unfolds through the process of their practical use.
