An Intelligent Personal Finance Management System using AI-Based Expense Categorization

The research introduces a framework to design, develop, and implement a secure, smart, and Decentralized Personal Finance application. The contribution of blockchain to store immutable records of transactions with artificial intelligence to classify users' transactions facilitates user transparency, autonomy, and improving financial literacy among young humans. Supplementary synthetic data augmentation was used to train privacy-preserving machine learning models since public datasets were not availble. The design builds upon an off-the-shelf cross-platform frontend, an AI-enabled backend, and the use of smart contracts on the Ethereum network. A small case study indicates a significant improvement in integrity, security, and classification over existing Personal Finance applications.
