PET/MRI in Oncology: Real-World Recommendations

Positron emission tomography/magnetic resonance imaging (PET/MRI) has represented a paradigm shift in medical imaging, and although its use has not yet been fully incorporated into all clinical guidelines, scientific evidence supports its ability to provide a highly accurate simultaneous metabolic and anatomical assessment, which is particularly useful for staging, treatment planning, and evaluating treatment response in cancer patients. The limited availability of the technique and the demands it places on resources and coordination suggest that its initial use should focus on those applications that can provide the greatest benefit to patients, especially within the indications related to oncological processes, where PET and MRI have a defined and complementary role. This review focuses specifically on some of these conditions.
