A Preliminary Physicochemical Profile of Kolakulathadi Choorna
Introduction: The quality of traditional medicines must be well ensured before they are used in clinical settings. Though Kolakulathadi Choorna is an important ayurvedic formulation commonly used in practice for pain and swelling in musculoskeletal diseases, it requires scientific documentation. Thus, it is necessary to evaluate the physicochemical profiles as a preliminary step in documenting the formulation. Materials and Methods: Raw drugs of Kolakulathadi Choorna, were purchased from the local market of New Delhi, India. The formulation was prepared as per the standard procedure of choorna. The final product was then subjected to Pharmacognostical and quality analysis. Organoleptic characters, Physico-chemical, qualitative analysis of Phytochemical parameters were noted. Results: Kolakulathadi choorna showed slightly acidic nature. It had LOD 10.2%, Total ash value 5.17%, acid insoluble ash 0.7%, water soluble ash 4.9%, alcohol soluble extractive 17.77%, water soluble extractive 13%. Conclusions: Analytical profile of kolakulathadi choorna is not available in API. So the characterization parameters presented in this paper may serve as a preliminary data for the analysis of Kolakulathadi choorna.
