The Description of Concept “Soul” in Uzbek and English Languages
The article examines the linguistic representation of the concept of “soul” in English and Uzbek from a comparative linguocultural perspective. The study is based on an analysis of scholarly literature and explanatory dictionaries. It is shown that in English the concept is centred mainly on the single lexeme soul, whereas in Uzbek it is distributed among the units jon, ruh, qalb, dil and ko‘ngil. Special attention is paid to ko‘ngil, which unites emotional, moral and social meanings in one word. The results are relevant for translation practice and intercultural communication.
