AI-Enhanced Competency-Based Learning Approaches for Developing Advanced Problem-Solving Skills in Agricultural Education Postgraduate Programmes

Driven by severe climate pressures, resource scarcity, and the urgent demand for sustainable intensification, the modern agricultural landscape has grown exceptionally complex, making the development of advanced problem-solving skills among postgraduate students an absolute necessity for sector innovation and practice. To bridge the limitations of traditional educational methods, this study evaluated Artificial Intelligence (AI)-enhanced competency-based learning approaches tailored for postgraduate agricultural education programmes. The research comprehensively explored foundational definitions and models including AI in education, competency-based frameworks, and advanced problem-solving attributes while outlining specific core competencies, pedagogical strategies, and a structured implementation framework. Concluding that AI-driven, competency-focused methodologies are vital to maintaining transformative, industry-responsive curricula that yield highly skilled researchers and educators, the study recommended that postgraduate programs proactively integrate these AI technologies, modernize curricula with digital and climate-smart agricultural practices, upskill academic staff, invest heavily in infrastructure, and systematically monitor program relevance to align with shifting industry demands.
