Analysis of ZARA's Supply Chain and Its Implications for China's Fast Fashion Industry
In the digital economy era, apparel fashion trends evolve rapidly amid growing uncertainty in market demand. China's fast fashion industry faces challenges including fiercer market competition and climbing overall costs. As a leading brand in the fast fashion sector, ZARA still offers valuable insights with its distinctive supply chain management model, despite its continuous contraction in the Chinese market. Adopting a case study approach and based on the theories of supply chain rapid response mechanisms, inventory coordination, and flexible production, this paper draws on both domestic and international literature to conduct an in-depth analysis of ZARA's supply chain model as a representative case. This article analyzes ZARA's operational model from four dimensions: design, production, logistics, and inventory. It summarizes the company's strengths and current shortcomings and explores the implications for China's fast-fashion apparel industry. The results show that ZARA's agile fast response supply chain management model enables rapid responses to market demand, but it also faces issues such as high investment costs, inadequate product quality control, and significant environmental pressures. Instead of copying ZARA's model outright, Chinese fast fashion firms should draw on ZARA's rapid response mechanism, demand-oriented flexible production, small-batch production model, and inventory collaboration practices, adapt them to their own circumstances, advance information collaboration and leverage digitalization to strengthen market adaptability for greater market competitiveness.
