Animasi Jumbo: Representasi Peran Gender sebagai Media Sosialisasi Anak dalam Perspektif Simone De Beauvoir

This study aims to examine the representation of gender roles in the animated film Jumbo as a medium of gender socialization for children. The research employs a descriptive qualitative method and applies Simone de Beauvoir’s existentialist feminist perspective to analyze the characters’ dialogues, actions, and positions in the film. The findings show that Don maintains situational dominance that reflects a position of transcendence. Meri demonstrates agency by demanding commitment as a form of resistance and an effort to achieve transcendence. Nurman represents a departure from socially prescribed gender norms through his interest in flowers. Mae portrays female leadership in the public sphere. These findings indicate that Jumbo both reproduces and challenges conventional gender roles. The film therefore functions as a medium of gender socialization that offers children opportunities to negotiate their understanding of gender roles in social life.
