A Modified Shrimp Oil Cream with Snail Extract and Essential Oils: A Patent-Registered Green Cosmetic Innovation (Patent No.583 / 2026)
Description of the Innovation This invention presents the development of a modified multifunctional cosmetic cream combining shrimp oil, snail extract, selected medicinal plant extracts, and essential oils. The formulation was designed to explore the complementary functional properties of marine-derived bioactive ingredients and botanical extracts, with particular emphasis on improving formulation stability, preserving sensitive ingredients, and adopting a more environmentally conscious manufacturing approach. The central concept involves integrating marine-derived ingredients, including omega-3 fatty acids and astaxanthin, with skin-conditioning components such as collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid, alongside selected medicinal and aromatic plants traditionally valued in the Levantine region, particularly Damask rose (Rosa damascena). Botanical Composition The formulation incorporates eight selected medicinal and aromatic plants: Damask rose (Rosa damascena). Inula viscosa. Chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla). Bitter orange (Citrus × aurantium). Arabian jasmine (Jasminum grandiflorum). Lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus). Marshmallow (Althaea officinalis). Pomegranate (Punica granatum). This botanical combination reflects an approach that integrates regional plant resources and traditional botanical knowledge into modern cosmetic formulation development. Innovative Approach and Green Formulation Strategy A key aspect of the innovation is the use of aqueous extracts of Levantine medicinal plants, together with sesame oil, as part of a greener formulation strategy intended to reduce reliance on environmentally unfriendly chemical solvents and help preserve sensitive bioactive constituents during manufacturing and storage. The developed botanical formulation (Formula A) was compared with a reference formulation (Formula B), consisting of the marine-derived ingredients without the corresponding botanical additions. Comparative assessments included accelerated stability testing, physical consistency, organoleptic characteristics, and oxidation analysis. Preliminary Results The comparative stability assessment over three months demonstrated improved formulation performance for Formula A. The reported findings included: Oxidative stability: Oxidation analysis using spectrophotometric measurements at 280 nm indicated approximately 5% oxidation in Formula A, compared with 15% in Formula B after three months. Color retention: Formula A maintained its original color, whereas Formula B developed a yellowish appearance. Physical consistency: Formula A retained a uniform consistency, while Formula B showed phase separation. Odor characteristics: Formula A maintained a natural and more acceptable odor profile, whereas Formula B developed a stronger and less pleasant odor. Thermal stability: Testing at 40°C indicated better consistency and lower oxidation in Formula A compared with the reference formulation. Storage stability: Under 25°C/dark storage conditions, Formula A demonstrated better preservation of color, consistency, and natural scent. These preliminary findings suggest that the incorporation of selected botanical extracts may contribute to improved physical and oxidative stability in marine-based cosmetic formulations. Innovation and Practical Significance The invention introduces an integrated cosmetic formulation concept combining marine-derived bioactive ingredients with traditional Levantine botanical resources. It connects pharmaceutical and cosmetic formulation development with green chemistry principles and the valorization of natural resources. The formulation offers potential applications in the development of cosmetic creams, facial masks, soaps, and other skin-care products, with a focus on skin conditioning, moisturization, and cosmetic maintenance. Intellectual Property and International Recognition The innovation is protected by a registered patent and received the Gold Medal at iENA 2025 – International Trade Fair, Ideas, Inventions and New Products, held in Germany. This international recognition highlights the innovation's contribution to sustainable cosmetic product development and the integration of natural marine and botanical ingredients. Scientific note: The reported results represent preliminary formulation and stability assessments. They should not be interpreted as evidence of clinically established therapeutic efficacy or as confirmation of clinical anti-aging effects.
