DEVELOPING ORAL PRESENTATION SKILLS THROUGH PROJECT-BASED LEARNING AMONG UPPER-INTERMEDIATE EFL LEARNERS
An oral presentation is a common task in university but can cause stress to upper intermediate EFL learners. Students will often read the slides they have prepared, form long and complex sentences and not engage the audience within minutes. This article will discuss how Project-Based Learning (PBL) can be used to develop oral presentation skills with upper intermediate (B2) EFL learners in a university setting in Uzbekistan. Five sources were used to create a literature matrix. Two sources were methodology books written by Uzbek authors. The literature was reviewed using the three questions from our course (who/what/how). The literature review showed that Project Based Learning gives students real reasons to present. However, clear guidance would need to be provided to help them structure their speeches, present and assess their work. A 6 point project cycle is suggested using the sources from the literature review.
