Thremma gallicum subsp. gallicum MacLachlan 1880

Thremma gallicum gallicum McLachlan, 1880 = Thremma gallicum McLachlan, 1880 in Lavandier, 1979. TAXO. Following Guidicelli (1971), who based his work on the study of male genitalia, T. gallicum was divided into two distinct subspecies in France: T. gallicum gallicum in the Pyrenees and T. gallicum arvernense Giudicelli, 1971 in the Massif central; two subspecies recognized by Opie-benthos (2026). The imago differs morphologically from T. gallicum gallicum only in a few but consistent details. While the larva of T. gallicum gallicum is well described (Klapálek 1908; Jacquemart and Coineau 1966), the larva of Thremma gallicum arvernense remains undescribed (Coppa 2013). DIFF. It is likely that Lavandier was not aware of Guidicelli’s 1971 publication and therefore did not take into account this updated nomenclature. We have consequently decided to replace T. gallicum in Lavandier’s dataset for T. gallicum gallicum.
