Response of a quantum-supported traversable wormhole to a driven time shift between its mouths
In an effective model of a four-dimensional traversable wormhole held open by quantum fields, the fields compensate a time shift imposed between the mouths but do not let the wormhole settle: they shift the mouths' clocks against the drive, no counted linear mode decays or grows, and the computed runs (seven drives, each over a pre-set window; two runs halted at a numerical floor of the time stepping) do not reach the model's threshold for closed null curves. Following Maldacena, Milekhin and Popov, q charged fermions looping through the throat hold it open; the throat is linearized Jackiw–Teitelboim gravity, and a redshift difference δ drives the clocks apart. Quasi-statically, a persistent energy current through the throat rules out static solutions with a net time shift; with the light-crossing delay, the linear problem is time-reversal invariant and all counted roots are purely imaginary. Ratios built from each mouth's Schwarzian energy and its stress in its own time coordinate are invariant under finite SL(2) boosts and stay below 1 at the four computed drives δ ≥ 0.2, reaching 0.666 at δ = 1.0, where a coordinate-dependent ratio exceeds 1; with them, only the static ratios S2 and S3, set by q and the coupling g, reach 1. All statements are confined to this effective model at linear order in the throat, and to the loops, drives and run windows computed. We do not discuss whether time travel is possible, whether the chronology protection conjecture holds, consequences of quantum gravity, values on the chronology horizon itself, or other wormholes.
